First warm day here in Tracy and these guys are already looking around for a place to build a nest. I always thought they were mud wasps or daubers but this close up shot that I got today sure looks like your standard Yellow Jacket. They are not real aggressive, and seem to be just interested in finding water and mud to build a nest. I flicked one off the fence and he just flew away. They buzz around water in the gutter and we just step over them and they don’t get mean like other bees and Yellow Jackets that I have encountered. In the past I have destroyed a few fairly large nests that I have discovered in my yard over the years. They like to create nests up under these clay tiles on my roof where this picture was taken. The war is on!
