I’ll Be Here In The Morning
by Townes Van Zandt

There’s no stronger wind than the one that blows
down a lonesome railroad line
No prettier sight than looking back
on a town you left behind
There is nothin’ that’s as real
as a love that’s in my mind

Close your eyes
I’ll be here in the morning
close your eyes
I’ll be here for a while

There’s lots of things along the road
I’d surely like to see
I’d like to lean into the wind
and tell myself I’m free
but your softest whisper’s louder
than the highways call to me

All the mountains and the rivers
and the valleys can’t compare
to your blue lit dancin’ eyes
and yellow shining hair
I could never hit the open road
and leave you layin’ there

Lay your head back easy, love,
close your cryin’ eyes
I’ll be layin’ here beside you
when the sun comes on the rise
I’ll stay as long as the cuckoo wails
and the lonesome bluejay cries.

At My Window

One of the artists that Jim was listening to the night before he went into the hospital was Townes Van Zandt. I wonder if he listened to this song….

At My Window
by Townes Van Zandt

At my window
watching the sun go
hoping the stars know
it’s time to shine
daydreams
aloft on dark wings
soft as the sun streams
at days decline

Living is laughing
dying says nothing at all
baby and I are laying here
watching the evening fall

Time flows
through brave beginnings
and she leaves her endings
beneath our feet
walk lightly
upon their faces
leave gentle traces
upon their sleep

Living is dancing
dying does nothing at all
baby and I are laying here
wathing the evening fall

Three dimes
hard luck and good times
fast lines and low rhymes
ain’t much to say
Feel fine
feel low and lazy
feel grey and hazy
feel far away

Living is sighing
dying ain’t flying so high
baby and I are lying here
watching the day go by

I Did Not Die

I Did Not Die

Do not stand at my grave and forever weep.
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn’s rain.
When you awaken in the morning’s hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and forever cry.
I am not there. I did not die.

Jim passed yesterday morning, I miss you so much man…

A while back Jim and I did a bunch of conversions of old demo tapes and stuff that he had. I have been listening to them and came across this song that he did with Jeff Otto (who passed on years ago). I wish I could call Jim and talk with him like I have many nights like this. I have named this song Live Today, but I am not really sure what the real name is and I don’t have it written down. Enjoy Jim’s music for a minute or two and pray for him.

Keepin’ Jim In Our Thoughts

I saw Jim today at the hospital. He is pretty out of it but managed a smile when he realized it was me, but other that that all he wanted was a prune danish and a cup of coffee. He was also worried about where his clothes were. I tried to assure him they were safe and sound but then he nodded off again. I held his hand a while and he gave me good squeeze when I told him I had to leave. All that I could get from the nurses was that he is “status quo” not much better, not much worse. Not being family they won’t tell me much more than that. I just kept telling him to hold on and he seemed to hear me I guess, I like to think so…

Hold on Jim…

Early Morning Delta

April and I took off early Saturday morning for a little photoshoot. We ended up near Byron in the delta river area. This is the Lazy M Marina off the Byron Highway. It was really fun hanging with April and taking pictures. She has her own camera and got a few pictures herself. They are posted on her blog here.

QSL card from W6DLP 1933

I found a guy that collects old QSL Cards and he had a one from the first holder of W6DLP who was a man named Howard Finley from San Jose, California. I got the call sign a few years ago as a vanity call from the FCC, so I think this is really neat. BTW the house at 315 N. 5th St. is still there but I don’t see any antennas from the google earth image! If you are in San Jose take a pic of this house and send it my way! Thanks again Bob from the QSL Cards From The Past web site.
