Get Real Behind The Wheel (Altamont Raceway)Get Real Behind The Wheel (Altamont Raceway)

I got updated info on the Get Real Behind The Wheel events at the Altamont Motorsports Park from Cathy McCause, the director of marketing. Read below for more info including the schedule. The Next event is March 8th 10-4:00. If you have a teen (or know someone) who is getting ready to start driving take the time and go out there. It’s really fun, and time well spent trust me. Everybody at the track is so nice and mellow and helpful, they really are doing such a great things for the kids, thanks again you guys, I’ll see you again on the 8th and will try to recruit as many more parents as I can! Read more below from Cathy and Team Altamont!

Dear Dave – I’m Cathy McCause, the director of marketing for Altamont Motorsports Park. After a very long day today at the track, yet again how rewarding it was to come home and see that the Get Real Behind the Wheel safe teen driving program is really making an impact in our community. Since the beginning of the year, we have had some 300 kids (with their parents!) come through this amazing program. PLEASE HELP US SPREAD THE WORD :) We hold this event every other Saturday from 10:00am – 4:00pm – our next event will be on Sat March 8th. How often do kids get to practice driving in a safe & fun environment on their local NASCAR track ?Finally, we also need everyone’s help in securing a corporate sponsor for Get Real to further promote this immensely successful progam that we hope to take nationwide. The insurance costs alone are $2500 each Saturday and we’re hoping to raise the necessary funding to take this powerful presentation to every middle school and high school throughout the Central Valley and beyond. Keep in mind that Altamont is now a NASCAR & USAC sanctioned speedway, hosting a number of nationally televised events throughout the 2008 season – inexpensive and powerful advertising for local businesses.

I encourage all of you to contact us with questions, comments & suggestions. Please feel free to contact me directly at cmccause@AltamontRacing.com or my personal cell phone at 209.564.6744.

Safe travels! Cathy McCause & Team Altamont

Ken Ucci and the Altamont Motorsports Park had another teen driver safety training day today for new teen drivers. This is the second time we took Veronica out there for the practice in a safe environment. It was really cool and a great experience for the kids. Veronica will able to get her learners permit in a few months and she is pretty excited about driving. We are pretty terrified as parents. Ken Ucci lost his son in a bad accident which you can read about here. He has been trying to educate kids and parents since to avoid the tragedy that he and his family endured by starting to work with the Altamont Raceway people and giving kids a chance to drive and learn. Today Ken spoke to us prior to the driving and showed this video and there was a police officer talking about driving and being safe on the road. I’m not sure of the next date for the Altamont thing but I will post it here as soon as I find out. Get your 14 year old or older pre-driver teen out there, it’s well worth the time. Thank you Ken and everyone who gave us this chance with our daughter, we really appreciate your time. Thank you so very much!

I’m finding that I really like doing this daily self portrait thing, it’s healing somehow. It’s like a daily photo project too that I really don’t want to miss. Lisa just thinks I’m into my self (hehe) but its more than that really. Anyway, I have been playing with different light setups and thought this one was kinda cool…
