Hope for a better week…

Welcome to Monday. Here’s to a better week, than last week. (and weekend) Not that it was so bad, it was just a long week for me as I have not been feeling well, been getting over the crud that has been going around. It’s just that the weekend ended with a sad note starting on Friday when I watched the escorting of the officer shot down in the line of duty from his home town out to Oakland for a memorial service for him and three other fellow officers. Then Lisa and I sat and watched the entire service, about four hours worth. Saturday was nice, I mowed the lawn and Marina and I hung out in the front enjoying the warm weather. We had tacos and a guest for dinner, that guest, Veronica’s boyfriend, leaves for Afghanistan in four days, which created some worry in us especially Veronica. To top it off, an 8 year old Tracy girl is missing and there has been a city-wide search going on for her since Sunday, and continues even now, She vanished. So here is to the hope that the week will be better, we always have hope. It’s like magic.

Taking a break!, originally uploaded by daveparker.

Tonight April, Marina and I went to a Father-Daughter dance called Me and my Rock Star. It was pretty fun, a bunch of dads and their daughters dancing and having some laughs! A special time for sure, one I will always remember…

Police and Fire personnel from Tracy and many other areas escorted Sgt. Mark Dunakin to memorial services in Oakland this morning. Sgt. Dunkin, a Tracy resident, was killed last Saturday in the line of duty working for Oakland PD. RIP Sgt. Dunakin.

Calla Lillie

We have this Calla Lillie in our backyard that survives extreme temps and severe neglect but somehow blooms every spring with these wonderful flowers and bright green leaves. It’s a reminder to me that the sun will come out from behind those clouds and that life not only moves on but will persevere in harsh conditions. A sign of hope. Not only are these flowers pretty, but to me symbolic of the warm days that lie ahead. Happy Springtime and almost Easter everyone.-dp

Remembering Jim on this third anniversary of his passing. I can’t believe it’s been three years already. It still feels like I could just call him up and chat about records or some weird shit I saw on TV. Miss you brother, it really sucks that you died. -dp

April

Today April and I went to the mall and looked at books, had a coffee and bought Twilight. (it was released on DVD today) Thanks April, it was fun spending a little time with you! When we got home she took off to be with her BF, glad I got the time while I had the chance! They grow up so fast…

Cement Trampoline Flyer

“Liar liar, pants on fire!” One kid from Cincinnati won’t be able to listen to that one again after allegedly having an iPod touch actually set his pants on fire, resulting in melted underwear and second degree burns on his leg.

Kenwood TS-180

Kenwood TS180S - My new (first) HF Rig I’m pretty excited about my new HF rig, a Kenwood TS-180. My dad got a deal on this rig that needed work, got it working and gave it to me (thanks dad!!). It does 10-160m and works great! So far I have not made any contacts yet as I am dealing with grounding issues and antenna challenges, but I have been hearing quite a few interesting station on 20 meters. Hawaii, Alaska, Maine, Chicago in the states. I really love having it on my desk to be able to fire it up and dial around the bands. Thanks again dad, this rig is really nice!
